Roof Repair in Texas: What It Costs and When a Repair Is Enough
Most Texas roof repairs run $400 to $1,200 and finish in a few hours, while decking or extensive flashing work can reach $3,000. A repair is enough when damage is localized and the decking is sound, like a cracked vent boot or a failed valley. When wear covers the whole roof, a repair only delays replacement.

What Will Your Roof Repair Cost?
Most residential roof repairs in Texas cost $400 to $1,200, with small fixes like a cracked pipe boot starting around $195. A few replaced shingles sit at the low end of that band, valley and flashing work in the middle, and repairs involving damaged decking or structural work can run $1,500 to $3,000. Your price depends on what failed, how easy it is to reach, and whether water already got into the deck.
Repairs are priced by the job, not by the square foot, and that trips people up.
| Repair type | Typical job cost |
|---|---|
| Cracked vent boot or pipe collar | $195 to $295 |
| Replacing missing or damaged shingles | $400 to $900 |
| Step or sidewall flashing repair | $600 to $1,400 |
| Valley repair | $800 to $1,800 |
| Decking replacement under the leak | $1,200 to $3,000 |
Pricing updated September 2026, Texas markets. Repairs are flat-priced by job. Do not multiply these by your roof area, that math only applies to replacements.
Two things push a repair toward the top of its range: water that already reached the decking (now you're paying for wood, not just the fix) and access, meaning steep pitch or a hard-to-reach section. Both are visible during the inspection, so the number you get is the number you pay.
Is a Repair
Is a Repair Enough, or Do You Need a New Roof?
This is the real question behind most repair calls, and the roof answers it before we do.
Repair or Replace: How to Tell
A repair is the right call when: the damage traces to one identifiable point, the underlayment around it still has flex, the decking is solid underfoot, and the rest of the roof is not shedding granules. A good repair on a sound roof buys years, not months.
A replacement is the honest answer when: you're getting leaks on different slopes, granules are filling the gutters, shingles are curling across the whole field, or the felt crumbles when it's lifted. At that point, repairs are rent, not ownership.
There's a middle case worth naming: a roof that's 18 or 19 years old with one failing detail. A repair is technically possible, but you'd be spending $900 on a roof you'll replace within two years. We'll say that out loud rather than take the easy job.
Where Texas Roofs
Where Texas Roofs Actually Leak
Almost never in the middle of the shingle field. Nearly always at a detail.
The Details That Fail First
The pattern is consistent across the roofs we scope: pipe collars and vent boots dry out and crack in Texas UV, usually first. Step flashing at a sidewall fails when it was face-nailed instead of woven. Valleys leak when they were cut short or when the ice-and-water shield was skipped. Chimney and skylight flashing leaks when the counter-flashing was caulked instead of let into the masonry. And exposed fasteners on older metal back out as the panel expands and contracts.
The shingle field itself is the last thing to fail. Which is why a leak over your kitchen usually has nothing to do with the shingles above your kitchen, and everything to do with a detail eight feet uphill.
You Have
You Have an Active Leak Right Now. What Should You Do?
Water is moving while you read this, so here's the order that actually helps.
- Contain it inside. Bucket under the drip, move furniture, and if the ceiling is bulging, put a small hole at the low point to let it drain. A controlled hole beats a collapsed ceiling.
- Photograph everything. The stain, the drip, the bucket, the ceiling. Timestamped photos are what an insurance carrier reads later, and you cannot recreate them after the drywall dries.
- Do not get on the roof. Wet roofing is the most common way homeowners get hurt after a storm, and you cannot diagnose a flashing detail from a ladder anyway.
- Call for a temporary dry-in if the weather is still active. A proper tarp or emergency patch buys days without complicating the permanent repair.
We respond within 24 hours, and if the roof needs a temporary dry-in before a real repair is possible, we'll do that first and price the permanent work after the weather clears.

Storm & Insurance
What Your Insurance Covers, and What It Doesn't
Sometimes, and the deciding factor is usually whether the damage was sudden.
Insurance covers sudden events: hail, wind, an impact from a limb. It does not cover wear, which is what most small leaks turn out to be. There's also a practical threshold: many Texas repairs land near or below the deductible, so filing a claim on a $250 vent-boot repair often costs you more in claim history than it returns.
We'll tell you honestly which situation you're in. If it's a wear repair under your deductible, you're better off paying it directly, and we'll say so rather than pushing a claim that won't help you.
If the damage is storm related, documentation is the whole game, and that's work we do as contractor of record alongside your adjuster. One flag: any contractor offering to cover or waive your deductible is violating Texas Insurance Code 707.
Your Repair Timeline
Your Repair Timeline, Start to Finish
Most repairs are same-week and take a few hours, not days.
- You call or book online. We schedule a free inspection, usually within a couple of days, and same-day or next-day when there's active water.
- We diagnose and quote in writing. We find the actual failure point rather than the stain location, photograph it, and send a written scope and flat price.
- We repair it. Most repairs take two to four hours. Decking work adds time. An ARP project manager confirms the work before we close it out.
The crew on your roof is a vetted install team working under that project manager's supervision, and the repair carries our workmanship warranty the same as a full replacement does.
Who You're Hiring
Who You're Actually Hiring for a Small Job
Repairs are where contractors cut corners, because the job is small and nobody's watching.
- Your inspector finds the failure point, not just the stain. That distinction is most of the value.
- Your project manager is one point of contact, even on a $600 job.
- The vetted crew works under that supervision.

What a repair is responding to changes by region. Hail and wind events around San Antonio and Austin drive the storm-damage repairs that ride on an insurance claim, where the clock on filing matters as much as the fix itself. Coastal weather in Victoria wears at flashing and fasteners in ways an inland roof never sees. And across the Texas Hill Country, a repair often has to match an older or mixed-material roof rather than a standard shingle. Every one starts with the same photographed inspection, wherever the roof is.
Straight answer: for very small jobs, sometimes we're not, and we'd rather tell you here.
The storm damage inspection is free. What you do with the information is completely up to you. We don't do pressure — we do facts.
