Gutter Cleaning in Texas: How Often, DIY or Pro, and What It Costs
Professional gutter cleaning in Texas runs $2 to $4 per linear foot, about $300 to $800 for a typical single-story home. Most homes need clearing twice a year, and your trees set the pace: live oak sheds in spring, pecan drops in fall, cedar pollen packs the runs in winter. A pro clears debris, checks fascia and hangers, and flow-tests every downspout.
A roofer's honest take on when to do it yourself, when to call, and what it really costs.
The proof behind the promise
| Factor | DIY | Professional (ARP) |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | A ladder, gloves, and a scoop, roughly $0 to $50 if you already own the ladder | $2 to $4 per linear foot, about $300 to $800 for a typical single-story home |
| Time per visit | 2 to 4 hours on a single story, longer with heavy debris | Usually one to two hours, done in a single visit |
| Safety / ladder risk | You on a ladder over hard ground: falls are a real hazard, and it gets worse on a second story | Our team works from proper ladders with fall awareness; you stay on the ground |
| What gets inspected | The debris you can see and reach | Fascia condition, hanger integrity, downspout flow, and gutter pitch: the failure points you can't judge from a ladder |
| Debris haul-off | You bag it and haul it | We bag and haul off every scrap |
| Verdict | Reasonable for a single-story home with few trees and a stable ladder setup | Worth it for two-story runs, heavy tree cover, or when you want the fascia and flow checked while the gutters are open |

Should You Clean Your Gutters Yourself, or Call a Pro?
You can clean your own gutters if your home is single-story, your tree cover is light, and you have a stable ladder setup on level ground. Call a pro for two-story runs, heavy tree cover, or when you want the fascia, hangers, and downspout flow checked while the gutters are open.
Here's the honest answer most roofers won't give you: if you have a single-story home with only a few trees and a stable place to set a ladder, cleaning your own gutters is a reasonable Saturday job. You don't need us for that; save the call for when your seamless gutters need repair or replacement.
The math changes on a second story. The most common cause of gutter-cleaning injuries isn't the gutter. It's the ladder, and a fall onto Texas caliche or a concrete drive doesn't care how careful you are. If your gutters run along a two-story eave, over a slope, or above a deck, the risk stops being worth the fifty dollars you'd save.
The other thing a ladder can't give you is the read. When our team is up there, we're not just scooping leaves. We're checking whether your fascia is soft behind the gutter, whether the hangers are still biting into solid wood, whether every downspout actually carries water instead of backing up, and whether the gutter still holds its pitch toward the outlets. Those are the four things that turn a clean gutter into a leaking one, and you can't spot them from the ground. Catching a loose hanger or a soft fascia board early is the difference between a quick fix and a rotted-fascia repair later.

How Often Should You Clean Your Gutters in Texas?
Most Texas homes need their gutters cleaned twice a year: once in late fall after the leaves drop, and once in spring before storm season. Homes under heavy live oak, pecan, or cedar cover often need three or four cleanings a year, or gutter guards to stretch the interval.
Twice a year is the honest baseline for most Texas homes with any tree cover, but your specific trees, not a calendar, decide the real number.
What sets Texas apart is that our trees don't all drop at once, so debris arrives in waves across the year:
- Live oak is semi-evergreen and sheds its old leaves in late winter into spring, right when it also drops catkins and pollen. That's a spring load.
- Pecan drops leaves, twigs, and husks steadily through fall. That's the classic autumn clog.
- Ashe juniper (cedar) dumps heavy pollen from December into February, and that fine grit mats down inside the run and slows flow long before you'd notice a visible clog.
Because the debris comes in seasons, so should your cleanings:
- A fall clearing (November to December) gets the pecan and oak leaf drop out before the winter rains arrive.
- A spring, pre-storm clearing (March to April) clears the live oak shed and packed cedar grit before Texas thunderstorm and hail season, the exact months your gutters have to move the most water the fastest.
Adjust from there. If mature trees hang directly over your roofline, plan on three or four visits a year, or add gutter guards to stretch the interval down to a single yearly check. If you're on a single-story home with few overhanging trees, once a year plus a quick look before storm season is often enough.

What Will Gutter Cleaning Cost You in Texas?
Gutter cleaning in Texas runs $2 to $4 per linear foot, so a typical 150 to 200 foot single-story home lands around $300 to $800. Heavy debris, two-story access, or a steep roof pushes you toward the top of that range.
Cleaning is priced by the linear foot, the same way your gutters are, not by roof area.
| Service | Price (per linear foot) | Typical single-story total |
|---|---|---|
| Gutter cleaning (clear-out + flow check) | $2.00 to $4.00 | ~$300 to $800 (150 to 200 ft) |
Updated July 2026. Texas residential pricing, per linear foot (never per square foot). A cleaning visit includes clearing every run, flushing and flow-checking the downspouts, and a look at your fascia, hangers, and pitch. Your price moves with story height, roofline complexity, and how much debris has packed in since the last visit. Repairs (a resealed miter, a refastened hanger, a section swap) are priced separately.
To estimate your own number, add up the length of every roof edge that carries a gutter. A simple single-story rectangle might be 130 to 160 feet; add porches, dormers, and a second story and it climbs from there.

What Clogged Gutters Are Quietly Costing You
A gutter's whole job is to move water away from your house. When it's packed with wet pecan leaves and cedar grit, water sheets over the edge instead, and it lands exactly where you don't want it.
The first casualty is your fascia. Water spilling behind the gutter keeps the wood wet, and wet wood rots, which is how a skipped cleaning becomes a fascia and soffit repair. The bigger risk is lower down: overflow dumps roof runoff straight against your foundation, and in Texas clay soil that repeated soaking drives the swelling and shrinking behind foundation cracks. A routine cleaning is one of the cheapest ways to keep water off your foundation.

How Gutter Cleaning Fits Your Roof's Yearly Upkeep
We don't sell gutter cleaning as a standalone subscription you have to remember to renew. In practice, the smartest time to clear your gutters is when someone's already on your roof for its annual look: checking flashing, pipe boots, sealant, and the gutters together on one visit. That's how a cleaning folds into roof maintenance instead of becoming one more chore on your list.
The quiet years are the ones that decide how a roof ends. Nothing dramatic happens in year eight. That is exactly why nobody looks, and exactly why it matters that somebody does.

If climbing up twice a year isn't something you want to keep doing, that's the case for gutter guards. Quality micro-mesh cuts the frequency down to a yearly check rather than a seasonal one. Either way, the goal is the same: keep water moving through the system so it never gets behind your fascia or against your foundation.
